Republican Will Lynch Gives Insight as to His Plans to Beat Congressman Billy Long in 2012

Will Lynch has just posted commentary about his intentions to challenge Billy Long in the 2012 Republican primary for Congress. Lynch says he will challenge Long if no other Republican steps forward in hopes of defeating Long and limiting him to one term in the House. From Lynch's blog, Life as a Law Student:

There's been a bit of a hullabaloo the past few days about the potentiality of me running for 7th Congressional district (there's another story here.) I've been getting a big kick out of it, but I do want to clarify what my plans are. Ever since I interned at the state capitol for the first time in 2008, I've had the intention to run for public office. It was at that time that I first saw the positive things that could be done by good, high-quality people in the legislature. Ever since my first year working in politics, the fire has burned inside me.

About two years ago, I worked out a plan to someday running for office. I live in the 129th house district and the 32nd senatorial district, and I planned on running for either of those two seats when they re-open due to term limits in 2018, should things work out that way.

I got the opportunity to work on campaigns for Blunt for Congress in 2008 and again this past election cycle for Jack Goodman in the Republican primary. These experiences helped me develop my plan of someday being a public servant and honed my skills as a campaigner. I don't necessarily enjoy political campaigns, they're fun because they cater to my desire to compete, but I think it's unfortunate how lies and negative campaigning always seem to prevail. After my experience in the Republican primary, I felt the need to speak up.

I openly suggested the Democratic candidate Scott Eckersley over my party's nominee. A lot of this I've covered in the blog already and you can probably get the idea why in my previous post. Also following the primary, I made a promise to a close friend; I said if no other candidate files against Billy Long in the Republican Primary in 2012, I'll do so myself. I've felt very strongly about who holds the 7th Congressional seat, I think it's very important for us to be represented by someone who shares common ground with the citizens of the district. That's why I'm going to stand by my word.
I've had fun over the past few days regarding my potential candidacy, it was definitely a welcome break from law school. I decided to go ahead and make a mock-up of potential campaign signs (every good campaign needs signs!) There's a couple of my potential campaign pieces below.

I'll try to keep everyone updated about what's going on! There's a good chance my campaign will have to wait until after finals to get some more serious consideration!
Cheers!
