Have you ever seen the documentary Grizzly Man? I saw it in the video store a few years ago and really thought I would be touched by a man who learned to live with the bears, instead I would up laughing all the way through the movie as this mentally deranged man thought he became one with the bears only to actually become one with the bears. You are what you eat, or so they say. Eventually a mean ol' bear he named Mr. Chocolate got very hungry and desperate to consume enough calories to survive hibernation, as the imbecile environmentalist Treadwell was soon eaten by Mr. Chocolate.
If you have seen the movie, one of the memorable moments was when the crazy ex-girlfriend received Treadwell's watch, which had been removed from the bears belly. She breaks down in tears in an Jeff Foxworthy tornado moment like it was a piece of prized Tupperware found a few miles down the road.
So now, across the Internet you can find all these tributes to this idiot, who looks like he is half of the dumb and dumber comedy duo.
Now many years later, Sarah Palin is talking a more conservative approach to showing the magnificence of bears, and guess who's complaining? The environmentalists! It never fails. Prop up an idiot like Treadwell who tampers with their environment but and make Sarah Palin the villain for keeping her distance but enjoying their beauty while understanding their danger.
John Toppenberg, director of the Alaska Wildlife Alliance, said scenes in an online trailer for the programme appeared to show the former Republican vice-presidential candidate breaking the rules of Wolverine Creek, a famous spot where bears – and humans – come to fish. “It’s clear from the video that she violated the guidelines,” he said, calling her actions “a travesty”.
Large brown bears gather in Wolverine Creek because the fishing is so easy and the animals have, in the process, become a tourist spectacle. But Toppenberg warned that by behaving in an apparently irreverent manner, Palin was doing nothing to foster responsibility among visitors. “She is encouraging the violation of important guidelines that allows tourism to flourish in Alaska. She is inviting future problems with the tourism industry and, in particular, the bear-viewing industry,” he said.
And so it's ok when liberals with mental disorders disturb the bears at close proximity, but by golly if you are a prominent conservative, they will call you out on it.
