When it comes to politics, Billy Long ran on little knowledge and lots of safe sound bites to hide how little he really does know about the issues. While those jokes, comments, and talking points began to wear thin in Southwest Missouri, the mainstream media seems to enjoy yukking it up with Billy Long, at least for now. You have to wonder how quickly the professionals in the Washington Press Corp will see through the good ol' boy image to realize Billy Long is all hat and no cattle.
From Fox News:
A significant number of the newbies ran on platforms rejecting Washington "insider" politics and speaking out against entrenched, more experienced lawmakers. Missouri auctioneer Billy Long (MO-7), who ran with the simple two-word slogan "Fed Up," painted his lack of experience as an asset, telling the Associated Press, "We have enough political experience in Washington, D.C. to choke a horse."
Yup, Billy Long is sticking to safe talking points with the mainstream media. Tell me you aren't surprised.
Or how about this one. Good gravy, Billy Long is just days from embarrassing the Seventh District nationally. From the Daily Caller who notes Long left the cowboy hat at home:
“We’ve been tea partyin’ in the 7th District of Missouri before the Tea Party was cool,” said Missouri Rep.-elect Billy Long, a fast-talking professional auctioneer who had never been to the U.S. Capitol before his congressional orientation.
We have? The first Tea Party I ever attended in the Ozarks was shortly after the CNBC rant in Chicago hosted by Vincent David Jericho. Guess what Billy Long wasn't there. Nor was he at the next two tea parties that followed, including the one Mel Hancock made a rare appearance at.
Long, who arrived at the orientation without his trademarked wide brimmed cowboy hat, said Republicans lost their way the last time they came into power.
“If you always do what you’ve always done you’ll always get what you’ve always got and if we keep doin’ the way things have been done in Washington, how can we expect anything different?” he said, adding that when Republicans took over in 1994, “principles sold out to politics.” “We’ve got a large freshman class that is not going to let that happen this time.”
Yet he defended Roy Blunt every time he was asked if he supports Roy Blunt despite being fed up with Washington career politicians. Blunt is definitely one of those guys who lost his way. Why should anyone expect any different considering the special interests that has lined Long's pockets and his support for the Republican establishment. Not to mention, Long was quick to embraces the establishment saying he would vote for Boehner for speaker after taking PAC money from Boehner's PAC.
One just has to ask how long will this love affair with Billy Long last, if it is truly a love affair? Perhaps, they are just trying to get him comfortable because they know he will be a good sound bite to embarrass the republican establishment later on.
