How Serious Can the GOP be in Repealing Obamacare When Mitt Romney is Leading Early Presidential Polls?

Last week, the first presidential primary poll was released. Currently, Republicans favor Mitt Romney over other notable candidates that include Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul. Does anyone else see the irony in this?

The Republicans in 2010 ran on an anti-Obamacare platform of repeal and replace and who are they propping up as an early favorite for the Republican nomination in 2012? Mitt Romney, the man who gave Massachusetts a state run healthcare plan similar to Obamacare. Remember, Obamacare was modeled partially after Romneycare in Massachusetts.

How can we expect to defeat Obamacare when we have Republicans telling us there are good things in Obamacare that they agree with? Here is Mitt Romney endorsed Republican Billy Long on Obamacare:

How can we expect to defeat Obamacare when the Republican in the early lead for the Presidential primary created the system of healthcare in Massachusetts that Obamacare was modeled after?

I don't know about you, but I am losing confidence in the repeal of Obamacare. How could you be confident when the Republican party continues to allow it's candidates to make these claims and promote socialist programs like Romney did in Massachusetts?

Robert Morrison of Arlington, Massachusetts also sees the contradictions in the Republican party, specifically focused on Romney:

As someone who lives in Massachusetts, I see the irony in Mitt Romney urging President Obama to seize a "Nixon to China" moment ["Slay the job-killing beast," op-ed, Nov. 3].

The most outstanding recent example of such a bold and unconventional action was when a pro-business Republican governor named Mitt Romney spearheaded universal health coverage in our state. It combined continued reliance on private insurance companies, a government "exchange" to assist consumers in finding the best policy, subsidies to help those who could not otherwise afford coverage and, above all, an "individual mandate" requiring everyone to have health insurance or pay a fee. This approach was opposed by many liberal Democrats who preferred a Medicare-style "single payer" system, but Mr. Romney extolled the Republican principle of "personal responsibility."

Now, when that program is virtually replicated at the federal level, it's derided as "socialism." In fact, Mr. Romney ought to claim trademark infringement over the term "Obamacare." It's really "Romneycare," and it's largely been a success in Massachusetts, where 94 percent of people now have health insurance. Mr. Romney deserves much of the credit, but he apparently doesn't even want to take responsibility for it. I thought taking responsibility was supposed to be a Republican virtue.

Tell me, why does anyone have confidence in the Republican party, based on all these omens, that Obamacare is going away?
