Billy Long said lots of good things about Obamacare on the campaign trail. Unfortunately, because he had an R behind his name--that's R for RINO--he got a pass. On KY3 today, he gave more reasons why to be leery about the Republicans intentions to repeal Obamacare. Billy Long said he would fight to keep some parts of Obamacare. Yay Billy! It didn't take you long to betray conservative free market principles.
Billy Long vows to keep protections for people with pre-existing conditions in health care reform. I cringe every time I hear this. First off, insurance companies will cover pre-existing conditions, and it works like purchasing car insurance. If you are a greater risk, you are going to pay more. This is how the free market works in insurance.
Long likes the idea of being able to purchase car insurance after you have an accident so to speak. At least that would be the equivalent of what he is saying as he agrees with a major part of the Obama healthcare plan. You can have a major accident with your body, and you should be able to buy coverage after the fact. There is a reason they call it insurance at this point since insurance is really a safety net you purchase to cover you before you get sick or have an accident--not after.
Tell me where is this free market champion Long claimed to be. You know the same guy who couldn't give you a clear definition of free trade, but sure the heck didn't want to face more regulations because it makes him nervous. It appears Long has contradicted himself yet again and doesn't have a problem with regulations when it comes to Obamacare.
So what I am understanding is when it comes to regulations Long believes its the federal government's job to pick winners and losers, and the healthcare insurance industry is Long's target. That's a socialist belief. While in the video above he says regulations make him nervous, he tells KY3 in his interview from earlier today the healthcare insurance needs regulations. So the banking industry gets a free pass under Long's leadership (a winner) but the healthcare insurance doesn't (loser). So much for government getting out of the way.
