Rand Paul Needs to Challenge the GOP Establishment As Promised: Military Budget Cuts a Worthy Goal of Rand Paul

The Republican party may be celebrating today, but there is a lot that is still broken with the GOP. Years of government growing and big spending has done little but cause people to lose faith in the party. Exit polls yesterday may showed a high amount of conservatives coming out to vote, but they also showed voters still lack trust in the GOP. Rand Paul hardly disagrees with voters, “both Democrats and Republicans have shown themselves to be untrustworthy."

Paul's plan to challenge the Republican establishment to return it to Jeffersonian conservatism is what the GOP needs. He will go as far as challenging Republicans on their defense spending, and this is a necessary cut--like it or not.

“I do believe national defense is the most important thing the federal government does, but I do think there is waste in the military budget, and I will be one of those who will reach across the aisle to the Democrats and say ‘we will tackle waste throughout the length and breadth of the budget,” said Paul.

He said this is one of the only issues where compromise needs to happen.
